Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and displays its response. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains internal unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Routine server logs may collect these technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view timestamps and visit duration
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- IP address used for the connection
- Pages viewed during the visit
- Referring site, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help summarize traffic, including popular pages and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.

- Maintaining site speed, stability, and availability
- Finding and repairing technical faults

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Eaton County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Eaton County Sheriff, county courts, Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Official access is governed by sources such as the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., and the public criminal-history dissemination rule in MCL 28.241a. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing practices apply to information entered there. Those practices are beyond our control, so review the provider’s policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Eaton County Sheriff, trial courts, Michigan agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination’s privacy policy governs that visit. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query
- Advertising networks serving page ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and administrative safeguards protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and this site cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when appropriate.
Your Data Rights
Applicable Michigan law, including the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, MCL 445.901 et seq., may affect a visitor’s rights. A person may ask to:
- Review personal information held about that person
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion where the law permits
- Opt out of certain processing when a right applies
